BMW is recalling about 75,000 of its 5- and 7-series cars to fix a problem with the front-seat heating mats.
The mats could overheat in certain circumstances, damaging the surrounding upholstery and possibly resulting in slight burns, the company said.
About 69,750 5-series sedans launched in mid-2003 are affected by the recall; more than 29,000 of those were sold in Germany. Of the 7 series, 5,550 cars were affected. The recall affects cars made between February 2003 and June 2004.
