Ford Recalls Escape, Mariner to Fix Headliners

April 13, 2006
Ford Motor Co. is recalling 134,365 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner SUVs without side air curtains or moonroofs because of inadequate safety padding.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that Ford dealers will make modifications to the "energy absorbing material located above the headliner" on the driver's side of the SUV.

Dealers will adjust the padding the driver's side free of charge. NHTSA says the recall is necessary to prevent injuries during a crash.

The vehicles affected by the recall are from the 2005 model year, according to NHTSA.

No injuries or accidents are connected to the recall.
