The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is recalling the popular Toyota FJ Cruiser because of a flaw in some of the SUV's tires.
Some of the 9,434 FJ Cruiser SUVs involved in the recall equipped with Bridgestone Dueler or Dunlop Grandtrek tires which may have an inner bead that is damaged or flawed.
A bulge can develop along the sidewall near the damage allowing air to leak from the tire bead. "If the tire looses air pressure it may lead to loss of vehicle control and increase the possibility of a crash," according to NHTSA.
Toyota dealers will inspect all five tires on the FJ Cruiser including the spare. Toyota will replace any damaged tire free of charge.
The recall begins July 15. FJ Cruiser owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331 or NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.
