Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky, Cadillac CTS-V Recalled

December 21, 2007
General Motors is recalling 276,000 vehicles including three pricey sports cars from the 2005 to 2007 model years to replace pinion seals in the differentials.

GM reported to federal regulators at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that the seals do not meet specifications and can allow fluid leaks.

The recalled vehicles include the 2005 to 20007 Cadillac CTS-V, the 2006 Saturn Sky and 2006 to 2007 Pontiac Solstice. Also part of the recall are the Cadillac CTS, SRX, STS and STS-V.

Most of the recalled GM models are rear-wheel-drive vehicles but the recall also involves front axles in the all-wheel-drive STS and SRX models.

Owners will be notified in February, GB told NHTSA.

NHTSA began an engineering analysis to investigate complaints of rear differential failure in some Cadillacs earlier this month. At the time, NHTSA reported that failed differentials could lead to loss of power and loss of control.

The agency has reports of at least one crash and one injury related to the problem.
