Outerwears Recalls Fuel Funnel Filters

March 26, 2009
Outerwears Inc. is recalling the filters used in fuel funnels used to fuel-up off-road and racing vehicles. The filters can create a flash when they are removed from the fuel tank posing a fire hazard.

Outerwears received three reports of flashing when the funnel is removed from the fuel tank following a fueling event. No injuries have been reported.

These filters are used to fuel-up off-road and racing vehicles. The recall involves Outerwears Funnel Pre-Filters, or fuel funnel pre-filters, with the model numbers 20-2465-03, 20-2466-03, 20-2467-03, and 20-2474-03. The red fabric mesh filters were available in two sizes, small and large, and in two different shapes to accommodate various sizes of fueling funnels. The name of the manufacturer, Outerwears, is the only marking on the product.

The funnels, made in the U.S., were sold at various off-road and racing retailers nationwide from June 2008 through February 2009 for about $25.

Consumers should stop using the funnel pre-filters and contact Outerwears, Inc. to arrange for a full refund.

For additional information, contact Outerwears Inc. at (800) 967-3450 between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. ET, from Monday to Friday, or visit the firm's Web site at www.outerwears.com.

The recall is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
