Mitsubishi is recalling about 40,000 Lancers and Outlanders from the 2008-2009 model years to check a brake booster valve.
The company said that incorrect material composition in the brake booster check valve may cause the valve to stick when the engine is shut off. When the vehicle is restarted, there could be insufficient braking assist in some circumstances.
Dealers will replace the valve free of charge when the recall begins in April 2009. Owners may contact Mitsubishi at 1-800-222-0037.
Consumers may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153) or at www.safercar.gov.
